Anti Icing Using Liquid Deicer
Anti-icing means using liquid deicer before the storm hits. According to the Federal Highway Administration it can be effective and an economical means of snow and ice control.
Three different forms of anti-icing chemicals can be used:
• Liquid
•
Pre-wetted solid
•
Solid
Liquids and solids can be pre-wetted in a truck's spreader or liquid can be poured or sprayed. Once the chemicals are applied, they work immediately to prevent sticking of the first snowflakes or to melt them.
Snow that accumulates is lighter and drier than the brine that salt creates, which results in improved traction. In addition, because bonding to the pavement does not occur, a snowplow can be used to easily scrape aside the dry snow.
As a result, less chemical, as compared to salt, may need to be applied. Also, abrasives such as sand are not needed to provide additional friction for vehicles, which greatly reduces cleanup costs.

Icenator
Our incredibly fast acting formula contains MgCl (Magnesium Chloride) plus a proprietary and patented formula of corn by products which gives Icenator its remarkable safety, efficacy, and ease of use. Icenator has no odor and sprays easily from all spraying equipment that we are aware of. This deicer has an amber color liquid that makes it easy to see which areas have been treated. Since Icenator is significantly heavier than water, it can penetrate ice and snow and melt from the bottom up. Icenator liquid lasts until it is physically removed by traffic or becomes diluted by melting snow and ice. At that point, reapplication is necessary. It can be used as a pretreatment or after ice has formed. Icenator goes farther and lasts longer because of it's low freezing point. Because the freezing point of Icenator is below –85°F, even when the product becomes diluted by melting ice and snow it continues to go farther and work longer than other alternatives.
Other Liquid Deicers
Some contain only MgCl. Our formula causes less corrosion, has a lower freezing point and works faster than MgCl alone. Some contain MgCl with propylene glycol as a carrier. These are good products. Of course, we like Icenator better. Icenator has all the benefits of other liquid deicers plus a very low freezing point. The lower the freezing point – the stronger the deicer. -20F is very good, -50 is even better. Only, if only there was one with -85F that would really be something. There is a ice melt with -85F.
